How to photograph your cards

Already ordered? Upload your cards here. Have your order number handy.

A phone is all you need. Ten minutes and a sunny table will do it.

Each card

  1. Use daylight. Set up near a window during the day. Turn the flash off.
  2. Lay it flat on a plain, darker surface, like a table or a cutting board.
  3. Shoot from straight above so the edges of the card look square, not slanted.
  4. Fill the frame with the card, leaving a little space around the edges.
  5. Check it's sharp. Zoom in on the photo. If you can read the handwriting, it's good.
  6. Get the back too if there is writing on it.

Stains and fading are fine

Don't clean or flatten anything that might tear. We restore stains, creases and faded ink. If a photo isn't clear enough, we will ask you to retake it.

The extras that make it yours

  • Voice memos: pick a recipe and talk for a minute or two. Who made it, when, and for whom. We turn it into the story on that page.
  • Family photos: photograph old prints the same way as the cards. For the Heirloom cover, send the photo you want on the front.
  • Anything else: notes in the margins of old cookbooks, holiday menus, letters. If it matters to your family, send it.

Sending everything

Use the upload link in your order email, or upload here. Upload as many photos as you like, in any order. We sort them.

For Christmas, send your cards by December 1. Your proof comes within 3 business days of getting them.
